In a new series of painted and collaged works, Ollie Wagner re-examines the American landscape through the lens of media, piecing together video stills, photographs, and found footage to create a highly filtered reproduction of reality.
Ollie’s process involves recording iPhone video from moving cars, photographing this video as it plays on a television set, altering these photos digitally, printing and collaging them onto wood panels, then painting and shellacking the final images. This labor intensive method of image production results in landscape portraits that are simultaneously unnerving and familiar.
